Have you seen THE IMPOTENCE OF PROOFREADING YouTube video by Taylor Mali? If not, it is hilarious and you must check it out! Go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjhOBiSk8Gg
Anyone who has a computer and has ever used spell check will get a kick out of this. Thanks, Taylor, for a laugh out loud look at proofreading and an enlightening look at men … who knew all they want is to get into a good collie? LOL!
Wasn’t it nice (for a little while) not to have any Paris Hilton coverage? Sigh. I really did enjoy it. Unfortunately, now we’re back to square one, with Paris being hounded by the paparazzi (at least she had Taco Bell delivered for them). I cannot believe that news outlets such as Fox News aired live coverage of her SUV driving down the California freeway. Can you say OJ Simpson?
I’ve decided that I’m sick of Paris (the woman, not the city) and have also decided that I want the real Paris to behave more like the parodied Paris in the Paris in Jail: The Music Video on YouTube. Yep, I actually enjoyed Amber Hay’s portrayal of Paris and found her not only amusing but not the least bit annoying. Can the media outlets start playing that instead of actual Paris footage? No, probably not. But it was worth a try.
Enough of my Paris rant. I’m going to look on the bright side: it is still better than Britney Spears news.
Until tomorrow…
There’s been a lot said about Kelly Clarkson recently. Rumors that Clive Davis hated her new CD MY DECEMBER have been rampant, she’s scrapped her tour due to poor ticket sales and now magazines have cover stories about her being bulemic. For a performer who has been so down to earth, it is surprising just how much is being said.
The AMERICAN IDOL alum’s second album, BREAKAWAY was fantastic! Who knew she could rock? Even more impressive is that she wrote most of the songs. With that being said, and her CDs making so much money, does she deserve the harsh criticism? Is such negativity, as a friend suggested, because she’s a successful woman? Or is it that she began her career on AMERICAN IDOL?
I tend to lean towards her IDOL association. In the beginning, IDOL was seen by many in the recording industry to be taboo. Actually, many predicted it was the end of the music business. Not so. Since then, it has introduced us to talent such as Kelly, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Clay Aiken and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson. Not only that, but performers such as Maroon 5, Bon Jovi, Gwen Steffani and Jennifer Lopez performed on the show this past season giving it credibility as a multi-million dollar music machine.
So, what do you think? Is Kelly suffering because of IDOL backlash or is she being penalized for being a talented and successful woman?
Pay Per View loves us this month. We’ve been catching up on the big screen movies we never saw in the theater and this weekend brought BECAUSE I SAID SO with Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham, and Stephen Collins. I thought it started out strong with some laugh out loud scenes.
Yes, I did like the movie … until one of the characters had relationships with two men at once and then it just lost me. It’s a shame, too, but once she stopped being monogamous, I lost all sympathy for her. Even at the end, when she ended up with the good guy, I couldn’t care less. No, I take that back. I then felt like she didn’t deserve him.
What’s your take? Non-monogamous characters: men, women, doesn’t matter … do they turn a thumbs up movie or novel to a thumbs down?

Let’s talk music. What are you listening to right now? Anything new?
My favorite CD right now is Maroon 5’s latest release Won’t be soon before long. It’s sooooo good! From the fast tracks like If I never see your face again and Makes me wonder to the slower Nothing lasts forever, I can honestly say I like each and every song. And Adam Levine’s voice has such a great tone to it. I cannot say enough about this CD! So, go out and pick it up or check out a preview at iTunes. Hopefully, you’ll love it as much as I do.
Your turn … what are you listening to?
I finally saw the motion picture DREAMGIRLS this weekend and it was absolutley fabulous! Jennifer Hudson stole the movie in my opinion, delivering a phenomenal performance with powerhouse vocals. If you haven’t seen it yet, please do so. Rent it, purchase it on Pay Per View … just see it.
The one thing that saddened me was that so much of Jennifer Hudson’s character was based upon Florence Ballard, an original member of The Supremes who died at a young age, having depleted her funds and living in poverty. More so than I remember from the Broadway production, the movie references Florence Ballard’s alcohol dependency and financial difficulties. Florence Ballard had such a strong, wonderful voice that (rumor has it) she had to stand seventeen feet away from the microphone in the recording studio while Diana Ross and fellow Supreme Mary Wilson had to stand directly in front.
So, when you see DREAMGIRLS, remember Florence Ballard. If only her life had a happy ending …
Greg & I saw the Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore movie MUSIC AND LYRICS this weekend and I LOVED IT! It was sweet, incredibly funny and had some great music (Hugh Grant does sing well). There are a lot of 80s jokes (can you say Flock of Seagulls?) and a great spoof of an 80s music video that, frighteningly enough, resembles the music videos that I remember seeing on MTV back then. If you haven’t yet seen this movie, I highly recommend it. For more about the movie or to hear some of the songs, visit http://www.myspace.com/musicandlyrics.
On another note, ROMANCE JUNKIES is holding a contest and you can vote. The talented panelists include our very own Morag McKendrick Pippin. To check out some of the great entries, go to http://www.contestjunkies.com/index.html and vote for your favorites.
Until tomorrow…
Just when I thought I’d had more than enough of Paris Hilton and her jail sentence, a hilarious video is released spoofing the recent events. Produced by OMOVIES, the Paris Hilton look-alike sings to the tune of Paris’ real song STARS ARE BLIND. The absolutely hysterical lyrics include:
“I don’t mind being confined … to LA state prison.”
“They tell me now that my appeal has been denied … and that my sentence is now bona fied. How about a jail that won’t insult my civic pride? Like somewhere on the Upper West Side … with a water slide.”
“Even though they say I’m shady … I’m really so refined … I need a cleaning lady … I can’t do time.”
“I went ape … on a sex tape … the guys go ga-ga … now I must make my jail escape … I miss my Chihuahua.”
“Robert Blake and OJ Simpson … they both got off scott free. I drive without a license … they throw the book right at me. It sucks to the highest degree.”
“My friend Nicole drove down the freeway the wrong way … she’ll probably get parole and float away … because she weighs … zero.”
“Even though I’ve got glamour … even though my clothes are fab … they throw me in the slammer … Brittney gets rehab.”
“You can’t do this to me … I’m rich … and now I’m digging a ditch … my roommate’s a woman named Mitch.”
And there’s even a billboard with a picture of Lindsay Lohan advertising “Lindsay Lohan’s driving school.”
This really is the funniest video I’ve seen since the Fast Food Freestyle and The Prep Tea Party. To be honest, this video is even funnier. Thanks to Allan Murray and Sean Haines for creating such a fabulous Paris spoof. You must check it out at: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=omovies
Have a great day and keep smiling …
With the warm summer months upon us, is there anything to watch on TV? THE TUDORS ended last week and won’t be back until 2008 (with Peter O’Toole). I will so miss it until then! With so many seasons concluded, what is there on the tube?
ENTOURAGE. The boys are back and better than ever. And Jeremy Piven’s Ari Gold is worth a subscription to HBO.
THE STARTER WIFE with Debra Messing airs on the USA network and is quite funny.
Also on USA is THE 4400 a sci-fi drama about alien abductees reutrning with special powers. This little show that could is back for its third season, I believe, and is good summer fun.
On FX is EUREKA about a town of geniuses. There’s a government facility and lots of wierd occurances. It’s another cute show.
If you’re a reality buff, BIG BROTHER is back. Showtime is airing uncensored out takes with their BIG BROTHER AFTER DARK.
I’m not going to be watching much TV this summer. With work, home improvement tasks and my 100 words a day group I’m keeping busy. But I will be watching ENTOURAGE, THE 4400, EUREKA, and THE STARTER WIFE. I’ll probably catch BIG BROTHER when I can. The great thing about DVRs is that you can fast forward through commercials and boring scenes and watch your shows in less time. At least that’s what I choose to tell myself.
One question: is ROCK STAR coming back this year? I haven’t heard anything about it yet.
What are your summer TV plans, if any?
