I truly appreciate the interest you’ve expressed in my novel and all of the support and encouragement you’ve shown me! Remember to email me for promotional items such as autographed book plates and magnets.I had a great vacation at THE ROMANCE WRITERS OF AMERICA’s annual conference in Dallas, TX which I’ll blog more about this week. First, though, I have got to discuss HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. Let me sum it up with one word … FABULOUS!
I have to admit that my favorite HP movies have been the first two, as they were the most consistent with JK Rowling’s novels. Although HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN is one of my favorite HP novels, it was my least favorite movie. Director Alfonzo Cuaron made so many unnecessary changes that I left the theater with the impression that he had no respect for JK Rowling’s stories, that he made changes for the sake of change only, and that the children weren’t very good actors. The film version of HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE debunked my notion of the childrens’ acting chops as Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson showed just how much they’d grown and just how talented they really are. Which leads me to HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX … now one of my favorite HP movies ever.
Director David Yates sculpted a movie worthy of the novel so many of us love dearly. The acting is superb by all. From Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson to the perpetual professionals Maggie Smith, Jason Isaacs, Alan Rickman, and Emma Thompson … it was a cast to be reckoned with. Helena Bonham Carter and Imelda Staunton were the perfect additions, nailing their characters dead to rights. Gary Oldham, who I felt failed to live up to his role as Serius Black in PRIZONER OF AZSKABAN, was perfect in this one. I actually found his tortured-soul Serius to be sexy. Strange, I know but I never claimed to be normal.
There were two glaring plot changes but they were justified and worked with the film. Ginny is clearly coming into her own and I can’t wait to see Bonnie Wright shine in the next movie, HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE.
Greg and I saw the 3-D IMAX showing last night with Hannah Howell, LeeAnn Lessard and Morag McKendrick Pippin. It was our last hurrah before our friends headed home and we all had a great time. So, five thumbs up from us. How about you? Did you see it? If so, tell me all …

Last night I volunteered for the RWA Literacy event. It was the third year I’ve done so and, as always, it was a blast! I got to see of my favorite auhtors and meet lots of MySpace friends. In addition, I got some autographed novels … always a bonus!
This morning marked the Hearts Through History member breakfast. It was held at the top of the Hyatt observation tower (what a fabulous view) and was so much fun! Certificates and buttons were given to members with achievements such as book sales, PRO acceptance, etc. I received a beautiful certificate because of my PRO status. Hearts Through History is a fabulous online chapter and I have recruited several of my friends to join. For more information, go to: www.heartsthroughhistory.com.
Until tomorrow …
Yes, you read that correctly … the sun is shining in Houston! Normally that wouldn’t be news but this summer has brought so much rain that we’re thankful for any sunshine we can get.
After what seems like forever, my friends arrived at last. LeeAnn Lessard, Hannah Howell and Morag McKendrick Pippin flew in Friday during downpours that caused airport delays and some flooding. It is great to see each of them! I haven’t seen the beautiful Morag in two years and it was way too long! I saw both LeeAnn and Hannah in Ottawa last fall so it’s wonderful to actually spend time with them twice in less than a year.
Unfortunately, since there was so much rain north of Houston on Friday, we missed the pool party at Jessica Trapp’s house. Jess started the two 100 Words Loops and has been inspirational to all involved with that challenge. Instead, we stayed at home and had a pizza party with my hubby.
Yesterday was a lazy day for us. Everyone was exhausted from their flights so we had lunch at home and then went shopping. Yes, shopping! LeeAnn had wanted to visit a Steve and Barry’s store to check out the Sarah Jessica Parker Bitten clothing line. After some clothes purchases by LeeAnn, Hannah and Morag (and two pairs of shoes later for me), we spent the evening at home with a delicious Mexican dinner created by my husband.
This afternoon will find us at Barnes and Noble at the Deerbrook Mall in Humble, Texas between 2pm-4pm for Hannah and Morag’s book signing. If you’d like to meet these talented ladies and buy some autographed copies of their masterpieces, stop by and see us! Go to http://www.insiderpages.com/b/3722456474 for more information.
With only seven days until the release of the fifth film, HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, MSN movies has posted a preview scene at http://movies.msn.com/movies/harrypotter/?gt1=7701. It looks absolutely incredible! Casting Helena Bonham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange appears to be perfect if this scene and the movie trailer are any indication.
Director David Yates seems to have a true appreciation of JK Rowling’s novels and it shows on screen and in his interviews. To hear what he has to say, go to: http://film.guardian.co.uk/features/featurepages/0,,2116327,00.html.
I can’t wait for the new film and new novel. It’s almost time … HOORAY!
